Bayern Munich dumped FC Köln 4-1 in a strong team showing in the DFB-Pokal Second Round, but one of the standouts of the match was young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
Urbig tallied six saves, including one incredible stop in the first half, to keep Bayern Munich feeling good about its situation in between the sticks. After the match, Urbig spoke about having the chance to play two games in a row.
“Manu and the goalkeeping team wished me lots of success. It was great to play and win two games in a row now.
Ultimately, it’s my job to keep out the balls. I see it as a team performance. And we did it well as a team again today. To come back from a deficit like that – it simply proves the mentality that’s in this squad. A well-deserved win,” Urbig told Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau.
Urbig certainly has given the coaches a reason to be confident in him, but playing tie will be hard to come by for the rest of the season. Hopefully, the youngster can continue its great progress and development.
Bayern Munich traveled to Cologne for a midweek DFB-Pokal tilt with FC Köln.
Heading into the match, the Bavarians were riding high, but the squad knew that FC Köln would not be an easy out in front of its home crowd. Ultimately, Bayern Munich pulled out a 4-1 victory doing exactly what they have done to every other opponent it has had of late — wear them down and pounce.
