Bayern Munich and German national team legend Lothar Matthäus has been advocating for Lennart Karl a lot of late and continued his campaign during an appearance on Sky90.
Simply put, Matthäus wants Bayern
Munich — and the German national team — to “unleash” the beast.
“We are always afraid to promote young players and that’s the problem in Germany. Just unleash them. There are no arguments at all [against calling Karl for the national team]. There’s never promotion too early and there’s never a national team too early. If I can achieve something, I have to go straight on this path,” said Matthäus (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The German legend is echoing the sentiment of many fans. Sure, many others are a little worried about things being too much, too soon for the kid, but he is also showing that he might just have the right mentality and attitude to handle the massive ups-and-downs that occur as a professional player.
So…what do you say? Is it time to put full trust in the 17-year-old enigma?
Song of the Week: “Mudshovel” Staind
Before Aaron Lewis and Staind went on to do a phase of more commercial-type songs, they unleased “Mudshuvel”, which was later retitled to “Mudshovel.”
Originally released in 1996 before they start to gain more mainstream popularity, the band re-released this gem in 1999 where the radio stations found it and gave it some big time airplay.
Now, though, it is just a footnote in the band’s long history, as a few other songs had massive mainstream appeal. As it stands, the band is still touring and this one still rocks. Enjoy:
Lehmann says it’s a battle of “two best teams in the world”
Former Arsenal and Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is read for Wednesday’s heavyweight, Champions League throwdown between Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
“The two best teams in the world currently will be facing each other. Both teams are playing at a top level right now. I’ll be at the stadium. It will be interesting for me to see how both teams perform at different moments in the match. I expect a very close game. Bayern did very well away in Paris. But if they want to press like that on Wednesday, Arsenal will play a bit differently. That will be interesting. It’s a home game for Arsenal, so I see a slight advantage for them,” Lehmann told Tz’s Philipp Kessler (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Many Bayern players can score goals; that’s a strength. I think Harry Kane has just as much respect for Arsenal’s defenders as they do for him. It’s a high-level comparison. But Arsenal currently have the best defense in the world. It won’t be easy for him to score goals.”
Lehmann is not wrong. Based on current form, Bayern Munich and Arsenal are probably the two most prolific teams in the world. It is awesome timing (minus the suspension of Luis Díaz) for this match to happen.
Entertainment Rundown
We’ll review It: Welcome to Derry (so glad I hung in with this) on Friday…
Revenge game for Kane?
The story has been told many times, but Harry Kane was a youth player in Arsenal’s system before being released and ultimately landing at Tottenham Hotspur, where he developed into a star.
That would leave a scar on many players, but what about Kane? Let him tell you.
“I was there for a couple of years and got released. It’s all part and parcel of the journey of football. That was 20 years ago, a long time ago. We’ve moved on a long way since then. It’s a very familiar territory for me. Having played for Tottenham for so long, it adds a bit more to the game,” Kane told AFP News Agency (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane can talk as politically correct as he wants…you know it means a little more!
Predictions
Bayern Munich is off to London to face Arsenal in the Champions League…and it will not be easy.
The Bavarians still look great, but maybe have lost a little bit of that aura of dominance since succumbing to a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin back on November 8th.
Arsenal, meanwhile, seems to be rounding into top form — which means Bayern Munich’s hellacious slate of UCL back-to-backs vs. Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal is living up to its billing.
Often this season, Bayern Munich has been overly brazen with putting a lot of responsibility on center-backs Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah. Much like it did against PSG, though, Bayern Munich will have to defend as a team to come away with a win. Maybe even more important is that the Bavarians will have to come out flying, aggressive, and willing to attempt to put Arsenal on it heels immediately.
Discomfort for Arsenal will be vital. As a wise man once said, “fatigue makes cowards of us all” — Bayern Munich must make Arsenal defend and battle with all its vigor while trying to stop the German Rekordmeister from scoring. If the Bavarians can make headway there, it could give them enough of an edge to wear down the Gunners and pick up the road victory.
The biggest x-factor for this match is how Vincent Kompany decides to replace Luis Díaz in the lineup. Without the Colombian, the chemistry could be off and things might not look or feel the same as they did against PSG. Bayern Munich’s adjustment to that will likely determine the outcome of the game.
