Newcastle United’s summer reset has moved into a decisive, no-excuses phase.
The Magpies just sanctioned their second humongous sale of the transfer window, agreeing to a monster £100 million Sandro Tonali sale with Tottenham. Don’t forget that Newcastle already opened the window by selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for nearly £70 million.
According to The i Paper’s Mark Douglas, Newcastle plan to reinvest the full £100 million raised from Tonali’s move to Tottenham Hotspur across multiple positions.
Douglas reported that there had long been resignation inside Newcastle that Tonali would leave, with one senior insider saying the midfielder “had to go.” With the chapter closed and Tonali wanting out, the Magpies can finally move on and focus on what should really concern them: improving a team that is vaporizing by the day.
In that regard, Douglas confirmed the reports about Newcastle having already agreed a transfer for Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure. On top of that, he mentioned Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi as players in Newcastle’s shortlist.
As a negative, Douglas also confirmed the rumors of Newcastle’s interest in Tottenham’s Archie Gray and the rejection from Spurs’ side to the Magpies’ approach.
According to Douglas, the message from inside Newcastle is “no panic,” but after losing Gordon and Tonali, the club needs arrivals asap if it doesn’t want to lose the fanbase.
