The offseason marches on, and the Yankees have their first significant commitment of the winter made. Trent Grisham accepted the qualifying offer, meaning they’ll have him back in the outfield on a one-year,
$22 million pact following the 29-year-old’s career year in 2024, hitting 34 home runs in a fourth outfielder role that quickly expanded to him becoming their regular center fielder. It was a bit of a surprise that Grisham accepted, part of a big year for the QO that saw four players take the money, but he’s now back in the fold and the Yankees have to plan the rest of their offseason around that decision.
There’s a lot of folks who aren’t thrilled that it came to this — the Yankees are only going to dish out so much money this offseason, and there’s plenty of big fish still left on the table that could improve the roster. Now they’re a bit more limited in how much they’ll likely offer, and they still have an outfield spot left to fill. Is Kyle Tucker still in play with what the Yankees have to offer? Can the Yankees swing re-signing Cody Bellinger and still make a splash for the pitching staff? How will the Yankees replace the host of bullpen arms they non-tendered?
