Noah Atubolu has been one of the brightest young talents in Germany for some time. Atubolu became impossible to notice last season with a massive clean sheet run as well as some exceptional ability to save
penalties. Atubolu even topped of his successful season with a great performance at the U21 Euros for Germany this past summer. It seemed like Julian Nagelsmann was never going to give the goalkeeper a call.
That all changed now as the DFB has issued a release that Noah Atubolu has been called up to the senior national team for the first time. Oliver Baumann is struggling with nausea and is a doubt for tomorrow’s training. With Nübel having done little to impress Nagelsmann and fans so far, and Finn Dahmen not instilling a level of significance, there is a real opportunity for change here.
Fans have been quick to rejoice but at the moment, Atubolu is still 4th in the pecking order, based on the fact he was not initially called up. Nonetheless, Atubolu can take his chance to potentially steal a starting spot, for now. With Manuel Neuer’s potential return looming, there is plenty of uncertainty at the goalkeeper position.
If Atubolu can go ahead and impress, who’s to say he can’t start at next year’s World Cup? With limited time before the World Cup, there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding this team, but seeing Atbolu with the seniors is good to see.
