Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Bengals fans and fans across the country.
After two composed performances in leading the Falcons to definitive road victories, conversations are changing about Michael Penix Jr. Many were skeptical that he would play at a high level again after another devastating knee injury last season.
The new regime was noncommittal about him. As high as his highs were in 2024 and 2025, his lack
of dependability and erratic play at his worst didn’t inspire great confidence in him becoming a franchise quarterback.
That has changed in two difficult environments to play in, especially on primetime. He is getting the ball out quicker and crisper. The decisiveness and processing of coverage alignments have been hugely impressive.
While plenty has been said about his ability to thrive operating under center, it should also be noted that he’s become much more comfortable playing under duress. That is pivotal for a young quarterback in their maturation process to play fully in command in the pocket.
While two games can only reveal so much, there is plenty to be excited about Penix Jr.’s recent performances. The question is do you think the strides he is making can translate into being the franchise’s long-term quarterback? The locker room is fully behind him. His throwing velocity is impressive. Penix Jr. has played a major role in helping turn the Falcons’ fortunes around in 12 days. Can he do that for years to come?
