SmackDown airs tonight (Oct. 10) with a taped show (or live internationally this morning on Netflix at 8 am ET) emanating from RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. This is the final episode of SmackDown during
the three week build towards Crown Jewel, which takes place on Saturday (Oct. 11).
This could be the end of the Street Profits
When Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins challenged the Wyatt Sicks for the WWE tag team championship in August at Clash in Paris, Uncle Howdy planted the seeds for the Street Profits to break up if they failed to win back the gold. Who knew that all it took was Howdy questioning their brotherhood for the cracks to begin to show.
Ford and Dawkins haven’t really been on the same page since losing that night, but they at least worked well enough together to recently defeat Melo Don’t Miz and earn another title shot at the Wyatts tonight on SmackDown in Australia. These two teams have fought each other enough times where it feels like something big needs to happen here for everyone to move in a new direction; either the Street Profits win back the belts and put this chapter of tension behind them, or they lose once again and completely fall apart afterwards.
Which option will it be? Could this really be the end of the Street Profits as a team in WWE? If so, which one is turning heel? Tune into SmackDown in Australia to find out.
The rest of the card
The feud between Damian Priest and Aleister Black may finally end tonight when they fight it out in a Last Man Standing match. Will someone backstage interfere to screw over Priest, or does Black finally get his comeuppance courtesy of Damian’s overwhelming toxic masculinity?
United States Champion Sami Zayn puts the gold on the line tonight in another open challenge. Zayn has successfully defended the belt on five consecutive episodes of SmackDown. Will a major name show up in Australia to put an end to Sami’s run?
WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton teams up with Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer tonight to take on the duo of Kiana James and Women’s United States Champion Giulia. I’d normally bet that the only woman in this match without a belt is the one who is taking the fall. But can the babyfaces stay on the same page on the eve of their match against each other at Crown Jewel?
Other stuff to keep an eye on
– Jacob Fatu says he’s sick of wrestlers who whine and make excuses for their shortcomings. Will that motivate Drew McIntyre to talk more trash and troll even harder whenever he decides to take out the Samoan Werewolf with a Claymore?
– Solo Sikoa says his family isn’t complete until he finds the “missing part.” Is a new MFT member traveling all the way to Australia to make their debut?
– Randy Orton was pinned by The Vision in a tag team match last week. Will The Viper fall for Paul Heyman’s mind games and ask WWE Champion Cody where he was when he needed him?
– Santos Escobar reportedly re-signed with WWE just days after his contract expired. Will anything change with his creative direction, or lack thereof, now that he’s apparently making way more money?
– NXT stars Sol Ruca and Zaria picked up a win last week as they try to earn a shot at WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Will GM Nick Aldis decide how many more wins ZaRuca needs on the main roster in order to get that title match?
– Carmelo Hayes dumped The Miz last week, only for the A-Lister to take him out minutes later with the Skull Crushing Finale. Does this mean Melo is now a babyface on the blue brand?
– Are Rey Fenix and NXT star Je’Von Evans sticking together as a team on SmackDown after last week’s win over Los Garza?
– Is Chelsea Green making any progress with her search for a new member of the Secret Hervice to replace the injured Piper Niven?
– Does the food in WWE catering taste any better in Australia? Perhaps the Motor City Machine Guns will let us know if they made the trip all the way there to eat it.
– Where the f*** is Shinsuke Nakamura? WWE has a couple shows coming up in Japan next weekend, so this is a good time for him to return.
