AUSTIN, Texas — Coming out of last week’s win over the UTEP Miners, the No. 8 Texas Longhorns are dealing with a significant number of injuries with the possibility that several players will be game-time decisions on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the Sam Houston Bearkats.
The depth chart released by the school provides some perspective on which players will be out — junior running back Quintrevion Wisner, redshirt sophomore running back CJ Baxter, sophomore wide receiver
Emmett Mosley, and sophomore defensive tackle Alex January are all missing from the depth chart.
In contrast, junior wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. is listed as the starter at the H position after recently exiting concussion protocol, senior center Cole Hutson is the co-starter with redshirt junior Connor Robertson, redshirt freshman free safety Xavier Filsaime is the backup to redshirt senior Michael Taaffe, and sophomore cornerback Kobe Black is the backup to junior Manny Muhammad.
Hutson and Black both left the UTEP game with injuries, while Filsaume sat out with a shoulder injury.
Expect Texas to continue taking cautious approaches with injured players because Sam Houston is an underdog by nearly 40 points and because a bye week looms before the start of SEC play.
