Duke’s ugly start to the season is firmly in the rear view now: after opening 3-6, the Blue Devils moved to 14-6 with a 95-41 dismantling of Pitt in Pittsburgh.
This was pretty brutal from Pitt’s point of view.
Duke forced 21 turnovers, had 48 points in the lane and got 50 rebounds including 16 offensive.
Toby Fournier and Arianna Roberson had 19 each. Roberson, who missed last season with a knee injury, led the team in minutes played with 30. That’s a great sign since Duke is not a particularly tall
team. At 6-4, Roberson adds an element that no one else can. She also led the team with 12 rebounds.
Taina Mair added 12 points and also had 5 steals.
Pitt just took a beating. The Panthers shot 0% from outside – 0-13 – and 28% overall. There just wasn’t much they could do about it.
For #21 Duke, the remarkable turnaround continues. Going from 3-6 to being ranked again is highly impressive. Next up is Miami on the road, assuming the ice and snow allow for travel. It’s possible they may have to stay in Pittsburgh for a few extra days. All of this makes a trip to sunny Miami sound positively paradisiacal.
