Good morning, BBN!
Kentucky’s not exactly lighting up the national rankings right now, as expected.
In The Athletic’s ranking, the Cats fell to No. 65 among 136 FBS teams, and in CBS Sports’ list, they slid
to No. 63 after the bye week.
They’re still behind the six SEC foes they’re about to face; however, Florida could fall further soon.
Meanwhile, things look brighter in analytic metrics. In SP+, Kentucky checks in at No. 38, ahead of South Carolina at No. 50.
But ESPN’s FPI isn’t as kind: they rank UK last in the SEC at No. 43, and give them a 42 % chance of reaching six wins.
So what does this mean heading into the South Carolina game? Not much, as this isn’t surprising, but this could be a great opportunity to prove everyone wrong.
Beating a team ranked higher in FPI and conventional polls would be a statement win. It could build momentum and quiet critics, especially with a rough SEC stretch ahead. A loss, though, might start to cast doubt on whether this team can realistically push for a bowl or compete in conference play.
What do you think, will the Cats get the win?
