The Kansas City Chiefs enter the bye week alone at the top of the division standings after a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. That win wasn’t the only positive outcome from Sunday’s slate of games that helped the Chiefs take an early lead in the AFC West.

The latest Kansas City Chiefs news
Sunday was a good day for the Chiefs beyond their win over the Raiders | The Kansas City Star
Then the season began and with it came the Chargers’ losses.
That included a 30-23 defeat Sunday to the Seattle Seahawks and that dropped the Chargers’ record to 0-4. That puts them four games behind the Chiefs in the AFC West standings.
LA’s loss was part of a great Sunday for the Chiefs.
Not only did the Chiefs win 30-27 on the Raiders’ home field, but that broke a tie atop the division and gave Kansas City sole possession of first place. And the Chiefs have a 2-0 record in AFC West games. That’s double the number of division wins the Chiefs had a season ago.
The Chiefs deserved to celebrate their big Week 4 win, but this one still hurt | The Athletic
Thornton certainly looked the part of an ailing player after the game. He wore a tape wrap just below his knee, holding in place a black garbage bag that covered his injured ankle.
“Praying for you, Ty,” Chiefs left guard Mike Caliendo said as Thornton passed him.
Except … that malaise wasn’t going to stand for Thornton. He began to smile when he was around his fellow receivers, telling jokes while looking to lift their spirits — and perhaps his own, too.
“I’m trying to celebrate,” Thornton deadpanned with a laugh after seeing his concerned teammates, which gave his teammates, such as Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, permission to smile along with him.
Three Things That Mattered in Chiefs’ 30-27 Win Over Raiders | Sports Illustrated
When is it time to panic regarding Steve Spagnuolo’s defense?
According to RBSDM, Cousins averaged 0.25 EPA per play overall and the Raiders owned a 61% success rate on early-down passes. The Chiefs’ linebackers got absolutely picked apart by the home club’s tight ends, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. Removing Week 1’s throttling of the Denver Broncos, Kansas City’s defense is now 20th in EPA/play and 17th in success rate surrendered. It isn’t like the Raiders, Miami Dolphins or Indianapolis Colts are unstoppable on offense.
Chiefs’ Tyquan Thornton Makes Bold Vow Amid Head-Turning Injury Update | Heavy Sports
“Love this team! 4-0 baby!” Thornton posted to X. “I’ll be back stronger & better #ChiefsKingdom.”
Thornton finished the contest with five catches for 111 yards and two scores. He has 11 receptions for 219 yards and two TDs on the year, which includes four appearances and three starts.
Tyreek Hill isn’t the Kansas City Chiefs’ only free-agent option at wide receiver with the experience to rejoin the team seamlessly | A to Z Sports
Hardman could also make sense because of his special-teams ability as a kickoff and punt returner. If other players take larger roles on offense and step away from special teams, Hardman could fill that gap. He has plenty of experience with Mahomes, too. Over six seasons with Kansas City, he started 28 games and appeared in 75, catching 177 passes for 2,296 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also appeared in 14 playoff games for the Chiefs, catching 27 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns.

NFL suspends officials Jeff Seeman, Adrian Hill for conduct toward players | ESPN
Hill’s incident involved Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson during their 15-10 win over the visiting Miami Dolphins.
Wilson was pushed into Hill by Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II midway through the first quarter after a third-and-10 play was whistled dead because of a Minnesota penalty. Gordon drove Wilson away from quarterback Malik Willis and into Hill, who was knocked down. As Wilson tried to help him up, Hill jumped up while pointing and yelling at Wilson to get away.
Seahawks ‘going through process’ of signing RB Joe Mixon to practice squad | NFL.com
The 30-year-old Mixon has tallied an impressive 7,429 rushing yards, 2,448 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns over the course of eight seasons in the NFL, but he sat out the entire 2025 campaign with a foot injury, after which the Texans released him in March.
When he was last healthy, Mixon made the Pro Bowl during one and only year with the Texans, recording his fifth 1,000-yard rushing campaign after putting together four with the Bengals.
Patriots’ Mike Vrabel fires back at Bills’ C.J. Gardner-Johnson for jab at Efton Chism III | CBS Sports
“For a guy that’s been on eight teams in four years? I guess he knows the drill,” Vrabel said of the Bills defender. (For the record, Gardner-Johnson has been with seven teams in his eight-year NFL career, including spending time on the Bears and Ravens practice squads).
New England, for now, has the last laugh thanks to its coach’s “mic drop” of a reply. The teams will meet again in Week 13, and Chism will have an opportunity to show Gardner-Johnson that he, in fact, can replicate the dazzling catch.

Andy Reid says special teams was Chiefs’ best phase in win over Raiders
“I think special teams was the best part of the three phases today,” Reid said. “(Punter) [Matt] Araiza with the fake punt did a nice job there. We didn’t capitalize on it offensively, but what a job he did there, and then the punt down there at the end, I thought, was nice.“
Araiza was locked in from the jump, which included the fake, where he sprinted to the right with the ball and took a big hit after moving the chains. After that, he punted five times; the Raiders produced only four yards off those kicks, which averaged nearly 47 yards.
