Good morning everyone –
I know the Chelsea result happened. But I’m travelling right now nad I’m writing this hoddle without knowing what the score is, so please forgive me for not understanding what the temperature is right now. I’m currently on the train form Connecticut back to DC.
This hoddle, like Friday, is about a record that meant a lot to me. Today it’s about Fleetwood Mac. They’re one of hte most featured artists in the Track of the Day playlist, but there’s shockingly few of Peter Green.
That’s a mistake.
I used to work at a running store near Spitafield Market in London. Two days a week the market would have theis assortment of vendors selling their wares: clothing, food, vintage artifacts, etc. I bought a jacket that would last me four years.
I also bought Then Play On by Fleetwood Mac. I wanted this one for some time. When I came home that day I played it on my crappy Crossley record player. I loved it.
My cope of this album is in rough shape, unfortunately. The album itself plays okay, but the jacket is falling apart.
I knew what Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac was like, but I never listened to this. It’s so far removed from pop, from the standards created by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks about a decade later, which would become the version of Fleetwood Mac the world fell in love with.
But we should not forget Peter Green. Or Danny Kirwin. This record features some of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs. Apart from Rumours , it might be my favourite FM piece.
Today we’re listening to Closing My Eyes, a gorgeous, bluesy and forlorn piece from Peter Green, whose time with the band would soon be coming to an end.
This song hit me like a tonne of bricks when I first played it. Still does.
