Serie A witnessed Parma’s impressive comeback against Milan on Saturday. The Rossoneri found themselves 2-0 up minutes before the end of the first-half thanks to goals from Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers. But the end of the game saw Max Allegri’s side meet disappointment as Enrico del Prato’s 62nd minute goal cost them two points.
This came right after a key win over Roma in what has been some topsy turvy last few days. With that in mind, we look at what we learnt from the draw against Parma.
Fofana’s struggles continue
Youssouf Fofana’s downfall this season remains a bit of a mystery. Be it in a midfield two or in a midfield three, he has struggled to make a mark even if Luka Modric has done a majority of the job.
He failed to track a runner in the second goal against Parma and this has been a weakness which has been quite evident in the last few months. It cost Milan again and this is something Allegri will have to look at. It could easily be down to his system which requires a lot of concentration but something has to change quickly.
Bartesaghi better than Estupinan?
Davide Bartesaghi did not start against Parma and Pervis Estupinan struggled again. The arrival from Brighton arrived for a cut-price fee and it seems like the Seagulls knew what they were selling and the left-back has barely impressed.
There is enough reason to believe that Bartesaghi is better than Estupinan. The youngster has impressed whenever he has played and excelled in both departments.
Is Nkunku even needed?
Christopher Nkunku is not a pure centre-forward. Allegri has been using him as that for the last few weeks due to other options misfiring. Sadly enough, the Frenchman has barely made a mark and he looks like a complete stranger at Milan.
The Rossoneri spent a hefty amount. Nkunku looks out of place and with Milan looking at striker options, a loan exit could be useful for everyone.
Saelemaekers still key
It feels like even when Milan have a bad day, Saelemaekers never lets anyone down. He plays like a man possessed and a man who is out to prove a point. He is indeed proving a point with his performances and is showing that he deserves a new contract.
