Ahead of their NFC North clash with the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings have announced a pair of practice squad elevations.
The team is moving outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy and wide receiver Dillon Bell from the practice squad to the main roster ahead of Sunday’s game at Soldier Field.
Much like last week, Van Noy’s elevation does not come as any real surprise. He played 25 snaps on defense last week and will likely continue to play a key role as a reserve this week as he continues
to get re-acclimated to Brian Flores’ defense.
Bell will help add wide receiver depth in the absence of Jauan Jennings, who is not traveling with the team to Chicago this week due to a family issue. He showed some exciting flashes in the preseason and was thought to have an outside shot at making the 53-man roster, but landed on the practice squad instead.
With Jennings out, either Tai Felton or Myles Price will serve as WR3 against the Bears. Both of those players logged just three snaps each at wide receiver last Sunday against Green Bay.
Players can be elevated to the active roster from the practice squad three times during a season. After that, they must be signed to the active roster if a team wants to use them again. I would assume that Van Noy will be elevated from the practice squad next week as well and will then be signed to the 53-man roster permanently.
The team did not move quarterback Max Brosmer to the 53-man roster, either by elevating him from the practice squad or signing him to the 53-man roster earlier in the week. That means that they’ll go into Chicago with two quarterbacks. Carson Wentz will be the starter, and J.J. McCarthy will serve as the backup. Kyler Murray, who has still not fully cleared concussion protocol, has been declared out for this week.
Those should be the last of the moves the team will make before Sunday’s game in Chicago. If they do make any more moves, we will bring them to you here as soon as we have them.
