Bayern Munich’s 2-1 preseason victory over Aston Villa gave fans plenty to be excited about on the pitch (Tom Bischof, eh?), but for many supporters watching from home, the biggest talking point had nothing to do with the result.
Instead, frustration centered on the FC Bayern TV Plus live stream, which was plagued by technical issues from the opening whistle. Tz reported that German viewers were expecting a smooth broadcast of Bayern Munich’s final major preseason test, but were instead greeted with
a blurry picture, frequent interruptions, and English commentary. The German stream reportedly did not begin functioning properly until roughly 30 minutes into the match, leaving many subscribers wondering what they were paying for. Meanwhile, the English stream has some picture issues as well.
Although the German commentary team later apologized after switching to German once the technical problems were resolved, the damage had already been done. Social media quickly filled with complaints from disappointed supporters who felt the service fell well below expectations.
Some fans vented that the video quality was so poor they could “count the pixels,” while others called the situation “ridiculous.” The criticism was especially pointed because the match was available through the paid FC Bayern TV Plus service. With subscriptions costing around €3 per month on an annual plan or €4 for a monthly subscription, many supporters argued that a premium service should deliver a reliable viewing experience from kickoff.
For a club of Bayern Munich’s stature, expectations extend beyond performances on the field. Fans invest not only their time but also their money to follow the team, especially during preseason when official broadcasts are often the only way to watch friendlies live. Technical hiccups can happen, but many supporters believe they should be the exception rather than the norm.
