Right-hander Walker Powell has been promoted to Triple-A Iowa from Double-A Knoxville.
Outfielder Billy Hamilton joins the Iowa Cubs from Mesa.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs lost to Indianapolis (Pirates), 5-2. The start of this game was delayed by 1 hour and 16 minutes because of rain.
Starter Jaxon Wiggins got the loss, but he only allowed one run on four hits over 2.2 innings. He struck out four and walked one. Wiggins threw 61 pitches, but only 36 were strikes.
Shortstop Nicky Lopez went 2 for 4 with a double.
Billy
Hamilton pinch ran in the top of the eighth inning. He stole a base and then scored on a single by Dixon Machado. Machado went 1 for 3 with a walk.

There were two outs, but I’ll give Rafael Morel credit for taking nothing for granted and hustling on this one.
Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies fried up the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 7-4.
Starter Erian Rodriguez lasted 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Mitchell Tyranski relieved Rodriguez and got the win because Rodriguez didn’t go five. Tyranski pitched 1.1 innings and gave up no runs on one hit. (He did allow one inherited runner to score.) Tyranski walked one, hit one batter and struck out three.
Right fielder Jaylen Palmer hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, his eighth on the campaign. Palmer went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.
DH Andy Garriola broke this game open with a grand slam in the fifth inning. It was Garriola’s third home run with the Smokies and 11th overall. Garriola went 1 for 4.
Left fielder Jordan Nwogu hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was Nwogu’s third home run this year, all of which have come since August 31. Nwogu went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
