The second week of CFP rankings have been released and Tech has moved up one spot to 16th after the bye. The ACC carnage from last weekend has given us some new neighbors, here are the teams now sitting around us:
13th: Utah (7-2)
14th: Vanderbilt (8-2)
15th: Miami (7-2)
16th: Georgia Tech (8-1)
17th: USC (7-2)
18th: Michigan (7-2)
19th: Virginia (7-2)
You can find the full rankings here.
The glaring weirdness here is moving Miami one spot ahead of us after previously being one spot behind. Sure the Canes
beat Syracuse soundly, but it was roughly the same score that we beat them by; if the Committee thought we were better than Miami last week, what exactly has changed this week? Perhaps it’s a weird reluctance to move a bye team up, perhaps it’s momentum from Miami’s early season hype, but we probably would’ve expected to be 15th with Miami 16th. Still though, the only version of these rankings that actually matters is the one at the end of the season anyways. We’ve still got the ACC Championship in our sights, something the Canes have all but officially given up with their two losses.
In terms of the Playoff itself, FanDuel has moved us to +186 to make the field, a considerable jump from last week’s +280. We are now firmly the betting favorite from the ACC, with SMU and Miami both well behind at +490. The path hasn’t really changed from what we said last week though: we effectively need to win out.
