After opening Big Ten play with a road win at Rutgers a week ago, the Hawkeyes return home to Kinnick Stadium where they’ll face their second ranked opponent of the season.
Three weeks ago, Iowa traveled
to Ames and fell short against then #16 Iowa State. Now they look to prove they deserve a spot among the top-25 as they square off against the #11 Indiana Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers are fresh off a 63-10 thumping of then #9 Illinois. That was in Bloomington under the lights, while this one will be Indiana’s first big road test of the season. The Hoosiers have looked dominant in their last two outings, scoring 136 points while giving up just 10 in that span. But they also opened the season with a less than stellar performance in a 27-14 win over Old Dominion.
So the questions today are, just how good are the Hoosiers? Was that week one team that struggled against ODU the real version? Or was it the team that absolutely demolished what was thought to be a tough Fighting Illini bunch a week ago?
And on the other side, was the offensive output at Rutgers just fool’s gold? Or does this Iowa team finally have an offense that can help take some pressure off Phil Parker’s defense? And speaking of Parker’s D, are they good enough to slow down some of the truly potent offenses now in the Big Ten? Or are we finally looking at a letdown season from his stifling defenses?
We’ll have those and many more questions answered soon enough as the Hawkeyes play host to the Hoosiers in Kinnick!
