Midway through All-Star voting, Luka Dončić extended his lead atop the NBA in All-Star voting. Luka is one of only two players with over two million fan votes with Giannis Antetokounmpo the other.
LeBron
James moved up to eighth in the Western Conference while Austin Reaves fell to 11th.
After the first returns, Luka’s lead over Giannis was under 100,000 votes. now, it’s nearly 200,000 more. His margin with Nikola Jokić remained about the same.
As for LeBron, while he passed Kevin Durant, he still remains well off the path toward earning an All-Star starter selection. Fan voting accounts for 50% of the final scoring with player voting and media voting making up the remaining 50%.
Reaves, meanwhile, will likely not make an All-Star team. He will be lucky to finish in the top 10 in fan voting, which is going to put a huge dent in his chances, regardless of how high he finishes in player and media voting. Coaches could theoretically select him as a reserve, but that feels unlikely given the number of games he’ll miss.
As a reminder, the format is much different this season. This year, there will be three teams of eight with two of those teams being comprised of Americans and one of players across the world.
Despite the new format, the selection of teams will not be different. However, if the voting does not return both 16 Americans and eight international players, then commissioner Adam Silver will select players to join the group, which could result in teams having more than eight players.
