Notes: Anthony Joshua is officially inactive after a year and counting layoff, plus having nothing on the schedule right now. That leaves two major players in Joshua and Tyson Fury, who are probably going
to wind up fighting again but are currently not listed in the top 10, because one of them is inactive and the other keeps saying he’s retired even though very few people truly believe him.
The one big fight we know is coming by the end of 2025 is coming this month, with Joseph Parker facing Fabio Wardley on October 25. I’d expect we’ll see Kabayel out again, probably, and Itauma will fight in December, maybe against Hrgovic, we’ll see how that all shakes out.

Notes: Another incredible performance from Bud Crawford, and he’s the rightful king of yet another division. For undisputed claims, that’s three (140, 147, 168). He was also top dog at 135 without fully unifying, and had plenty of an argument compared to the rest at 154 even though he only had a fight there.
What does Crawford do now? He could retire. No shame in it. Has made his money, would be getting out on the biggest win of his career, and I still think Canelo was really not just the biggest fight for him to test this weight out in the ring, but also the best style matchup of the top guys. I think Canelo is a better all-around fighter than Iglesias or Mbilli or Martinez or Pacheco, but that those guys with their size and less miles on the odometer would be riskier matchups for Crawford just in a purely boxing sense, not even counting that they aren’t big names. Canelo’s not some aggressor, he’s a boxer, and he’s been beaten by the three best boxers (arguably) that he’s faced in Mayweather, Bivol, and now Crawford. Add in GGG, who was a damn good boxer himself along with being a force of nature, and yeah, Canelo has struggled against true top of the line opposition.
But who doesn’t, to be fair? That’s the risk taken to face fellow elites. Oscar De La Hoya can do his silly Reacts To videos all he wants, but he knows that very well from his own career. I think De La Hoya is the better historical fighter, in part because some of his elite level losses were very debatable, but his middleweight robbery was Felix Sturm and not Gennadiy Golovkin, too, so you can have a whole discussion about that. (In fact, maybe we should! For fun. I’ll do it in The Feed!)
Anyway, Crawford could hang it up. He could rematch Canelo if Turki Alalshikh thinks it’s worth the money. There’s been mention of David Benavidez, but Crawford seems to have reasonable concerns about that guy’s size, and it’s also possible Benavidez can’t make 168 safely anymore, though it’d be hard to turn down a money offer if Crawford were willing to do it. There are good and intriguing fights out there — Janibek Alimkhanuly at or coming up from 160, back down at 154 with Vergil Ortiz or Murtazaliev or Fundora — but Crawford is very open that he’s a money fighter now, and it’s about the bag.
Please keep this one in mind and consider the greater boxing landscape of the last few years, just so you’re not gasping if it does come up: Do not be shocked if Gennadiy Golovkin gets an offer to come back and fight Crawford at 168. But I think the frontrunner fight is a Canelo rematch, and retirement might be the most likely thing otherwise.
Another, quicker note: As officials channels go, Jaime Munguia has been cleared of wrongdoing in his doping test failure after his win over Bruno Surace in May. Munguia is thus back into the rankings, but only at No. 10, which is not a statement about the case — I know as much in specifics as everyone’s press releases allow me to know, same as pretty much everyone — but simply that that’s where I think Munguia fits, and I think it would be just as easy to have him right outside the top 10 at the moment. I mean, he did get stopped by Bruno Surace last December, and there is real talent in this division even if most of it lacks his name value. Jermall Charlo falls out along with Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and I dropped Charlo in a reassessment; he was probably too high before this, and also we might not see him fight again for two years given his schedule and PBC’s problems.

Notes: One change here, as Serhii Bohachuk still has major problems with Brandon Adams, once again losing an upset to the American veteran on September 13. The same thing happened in 2021 on a “Ring City USA” card not many people watched, and Tom Loeffler went to work rebuilding Bohachuk’s UFC Fight Pass credibility over a few years before he then beat Brian Mendoza and lost a tight war with Vergil Ortiz Jr, but man, it happens.
Styles make fights. And sometimes someone just has your number. Adams is not a contender at 154. He just has Bohachuk’s number. He has the guy’s style and approach figured out and he’s built to beat him. He was trailing when he stopped Bohachuk in 2021, no miracle, it was something Adams had built toward despite being behind, and this time he just kind of outclassed him over 10. He has the plan down on fighting Serhii Bohachuk.
Adams is 36, and has had an interesting career, some of it unfortunately so, like managerial and promotional issues that have messed with his career’s momentum. He won the fifth series of “The Contender” back in 2018, lost to Jermall Charlo, and kinda disappeared for a bit. Then he never really got any chance to capitalize on beating Bohachuk the first time — he didn’t even fight again until 2024, when he became a regular for Overtime Boxing cards, going 2-1.
That loss came last December to Greece’s Andreas Katzourakis, who takes the No. 10 slot that Bohachuk’s exit leaves open. Adams has talent, and hopefully this time he gets the chance to really strike while the iron’s hot. I’d have no real problem seeing him get a shot at Zayas and the WBO belt, for instance, and that might make sense to the Zayas and Top Rank people, too.
I think we all suspect Katzourakis is just treading water here for a month, too. Boots Ennis will be anticipated to leap into this top 10 in November, as he officially moves up with an October 11 fight, and hey, if Uisma Lima pulls an upset shocker of the year, then Lima would be coming in for sure.

Notes: Lewis Crocker enters at No. 10, now that he’s Fucking World Champion of the IBF after a debatable win over Paddy Donovan. Crocker isn’t a particularly strong world champ on paper, but then neither is Rolly Romero, so here we are. 147 has seen better days but there is talent here and could be better days ahead. Eimantas Stanionis got active with a September 27 win in Lithuania and should be considered a danger to any of the titleholders, if he can get a fight done with any of them, which may be difficult.
There is plenty of talk out there of Romero facing Manny Pacquiao in January, and I do expect it to happen. I wouldn’t really say that Pacquiao, who would be 47 in January, was all that good against Mario Barrios, but he did well enough that he’s encouraged to take another crack at another “soft” title for some more money, and it’s hard to blame him or his team, because he doesn’t have to be elite anymore to win a world title in this division and make some artificial boxing history.

In comes Sam Noakes, who faces Abdullah Mason for the vacant WBO belt in November, a fight I’m truly looking forward to because we’re going to find out a lot more about both prospects/rising contenders. Seems likely Shakur is headed up to 140, too, and Tank Davis may basically not exist in actual, competitive boxing anymore. As for Keyshawn Davis, I’m keeping him ranked even though he says he’s taking a break from boxing, because that doesn’t really mean anything; he’d be “taking a break from boxing” right now, anyway, because his promoter barely exists at the moment.

Notes: Inoue handily kept his undisputed crown with a one-sided win over Murodjon Akhmadaliev, who talked a lot and had a lot of people talking for him over months if not a couple years, only to achieve “didn’t get knocked out” and not much more, as his effort to actually win the fight decreased pretty significantly in the second half of it.
It’s not some horrific or shameful result for Akhmadaliev, but it does knock him down several spots in the top 10, where he’s hanging on for now. Akhmadaliev’s effort was not as good as Ramon Cardenas’ in Inoue’s prior fight, even with Cardenas getting stopped, and it’s not like MJ had some amazing run of class wins between the losses to Tapales and Inoue. He took fairly low-risk fights in an effort to maintain a position.
Inoue now has Alan Picasso — who is going to stay in this division, after three fights where he weighed above the limit — on December 27, and Junto Nakatani will make his division debut that same day against Sebastian Hernandez, which is a very credible first step into the waters of 122 for him.
The expectation is that Inoue vs Nakatani headlines a Tokyo Dome show in 2026, which is an incredible feat for anyone, let alone two guys their size. We’ve definitely seen a lot more of people accepting the greatness of “little guy” fighters in this century, and that’s wonderful, but there’s also for sure still some casual bias against them and always will be in some senses. Hard to say if this is because so much of boxing’s audience has been boiled down into mainly just the people who really care, the diehards, or if it’s been actual good work put in by promoters, but probably just some combination of those things, one of which is not so good and the other is good.

Notes: In a division like this one is right now, post-Nakatani, a win like Christian Medina had in September over Yoshiki Takei — world title-gaining and dominant — can really shake things up. The quality of that W propels him into the top spot; he beat a top guy, did it more than just “convincingly,” and I think he earned the slot. It’s a loose grip for the moment, but he was outstanding on the night. Others can make their cases going forward.
Tenshin and Inoue will fight for the vacant WBC belt in November. The IBF still haven’t set a fight to fill their vacancy, and their No. 1 and No. 2 ranking slots were both empty at last update. Inoue was No. 4 for them, but obviously he’s going a different path. Jose Salas and Landile Ngxeke are the top-two rated they have otherwise, at Nos. 3 and 5, but don’t be surprised if Japan’s Riku Masuda or the UK’s Andrew Cain are involved should their ratings receive a fresh new think.

Notes: Kenshiro Teraji is out, as he’s officially moving up to 115. Hasanboy Dusmatov, who will fight an eliminator with Rene Calixto later this month, is in. It’s been a bit unclear what division the Uzbek amateur superstar would settle at as a pro, but now we know. He’s incredibly talented and if he’s serious about his pro career (and the eliminator suggests he’s getting there), this is a guy who could take over a division.
