Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanišic is not going to underestimate Atalanta when the two teams hook up in the Champions League.
“They’re aggressive from the first second, they never back down and give 100 percent in every challenge. They also have good individual players and don’t rely solely on fighting spirit. Now it’s up to us to show in the game what we’ve prepared,” Stanišic said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The coach hasn’t prepared us any differently; we know who we’re facing, what we can
expect. Not much has changed. Atalanta play man-to-man all over the pitch and go full throttle from the first minute. We’ll counter that. We’ve been giving it our all and playing man-to-man in every training session for the past year and a half.”
For Stanišic, playing Atalanta in European action is nothing new. During his season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen, the Croatian was part of the squad which lost to Atalanta in the Europa League finale.
“Of course, that annoys me; it would have been nice, it was a unique chance. When you’re in a final, you want to win. We didn’t play well back then and let them be all over us from the start. They also had a strong striker who ruthlessly converted every chance [Lookman]. For me, I absolutely don’t want to lose to Atalanta again – and I’m speaking for Jonathan Tah on that as well,” Stanišic said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
