If you missed Quincy’s post on it, Stephen Vogt was named AL Manager of the Year for the second straight season. Pat Murphy also won the award again, but in the NL.
But Stephen Vogt can’t do it alone. For that reason the Guardians are going to be adding Andy McKay to his staff. McKay is currently the assistant GM in Seattle, but seemingly will be filling the role that Kai Correa’s departure opened up.
But it wasn’t all news of #winning
• Luis Ortiz’s intentional balls likely cost the Guardians wins.
• “Major League Baseball would prefer to impose discipline on Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz by the start of spring training, potentially enabling the Cleveland Guardians to avoid paying the pitchers for as long as they are unavailable to the club”
His reasoning is sound this time, but Paul Dolan is looking to save a few pennies. (The 6 million dollars this would free up should not impact the spending of any major North American pro sports team, but this isn’t just any pro sports owner. It would allow him to raise his offseason budget from ~0.9M to ~6.9M. Just sell the team, Paul.)
