While the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers play at 7:00 p.m. PST on Monday Night Football, let’s take a look at how the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs fared in Week 2. Spoiler alert: Sole possession of first place in the AFC West is on the line tonight!
Broncos @ Colts
Game Result: 29-28 Broncos lose
- QB Bo Nix: 22/30, 206 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 3 rushes, 20 rushing yards
- RB J.K. Dobbins: 14 rushes, 76 yards, 1 TD
- WR Troy Franklin: 8 catches, 89 yards, 1 TD
- WR Marvin Mims: 2 catches, 24 yards, 1 TD
- CB Patrick Surtain II: 11 total tackles, 1 PD
- S Talanoa Hufanga: 10 total tackles
It’s only been two weeks, but Nix looks like he’s in the beginning of a sophomore slump. While the 2024 No. 12 overall pick was better on Sunday than in the season opener, tossing three touchdowns,
the Broncos had a tough time moving the ball in the second half and his fourth-quarter interception fueled the Colts’ comeback. Granted, if Will Lutz doesn’t doink a 42-yard field goal with 3:19 left and the field goal block team doesn’t get a 15-yard penalty on Indianapolis’ first attempt at a game-winner, then Denver wins. But that wasn’t the case as Nix and the Broncos fell to 1-1 after losing to Daniel Jones and the Colts.
Chiefs vs. Eagles
Game Result: 20-17 Chiefs lose
- QB Patrick Mahomes: 16/29, 187 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 7 rushes, 66 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD
- RB Kareem Hunt: 8 carries, 31 yards
- TE Travis Kelce: 4 catches, 61 yards
- WR Tyquan Thornton: 2 catches, 59 yards, 1 TD
- DT Chris Jones: 2 total tackles, 2 TFLs
- S Bryan Cook: 4 total tackles, 1 PD
The one-score magic/luck that the Chiefs had last year has run out. Kansas City dropped its second one-possession game in as many weeks, falling to 0-2. It seems like Mahomes is struggling to find open receivers, as he’s been running a lot more this season and was the team’s leading rusher by 34 yards. The Chiefs outgained the Eagles by nearly 80 yards, but the red zone was the difference in this one. Philadelphia was two-for-two on punching the ball in inside the 20, while a drop by Kelce near the goal line led to a Mahomes interception. That put the nail in the Chiefs’ coffin since the Eagles turned the pick into seven points to go up 10 about halfway through the fourth quarter.

- Greg Roman vs. Patrick Graham: “If you take the first preseason game, when you juxtapose that…with the first regular season game, it was night and day,” Graham explained on his defense’s tackling. “So to me as a coach, to see that improvement, it’s a credit to the players, all the hard work, because for us, we pointed it out from the first game and said, ‘Okay, here’s how we’re going to go about correcting it and how we’re going to work it.’”
- Carroll smashing whiteboards: “On the Saturday night before their season opener on Sept. 7, Pete Carroll used the stage of his first pregame meeting with the Raiders to kick through a whiteboard in dramatic fashion, leading to pandemonium in the room in a moment those present won’t soon forget. With the whiteboard obliterated, the end result on Sunday was a 20-13 victory over the Patriots,“ NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport wrote.
