Bayern Munich’s quest to assemble the biggest German talents continues. Though the club of course suffered a big blow when losing out on Florian Wirtz in 2025, the Bavarians remain a destination club for the vast majority of German talents. The emergence of Jonas Urbig and Tom Bischof, among others, are prime examples of this.
In that vein, Bayern’s interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach talent Wael Mohya is unsurprising. He already made his Bundesliga debut before his 17th birthday and was tipped to
play a role in Die Fohlen‘s 2026/27 season. But the 17-year-old has shocked everyone not only in how quickly he rose in importance to the team, but also in just how important he has been. The teenager has been one of the only bright sparks in a dour season to date, which even resulted in a call-up to the senior German national team.
Ergo, Bayern have been rumored to be interested in his services. Asked about this before the Bavarians’ Bundesliga match against Mainz, Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, confirmed that the club is at least keeping an eye on him: “Generally speaking, FC Bayern have every young German talent on their radar,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We’re keeping an eye on the boy, but we haven’t spoken a single word to the player, his agency, or Borussia Mönchengladbach.”
In the modern footballing world, talented players are quickly snatched up by bigger clubs. It would be good for Mohya to gain as much experience as he can at his boyhood club before moving on, though if Mönchengladbach do get relegated, he will be forced into a decision.
