As we waited months and months for Juventus’ then-brand new general manager Damien Comolli to hire a sporting director to work alongside him, the only real front office addition was that of François Modesto, who arrived as the club’s technical director. It was very much not the front-facing job that Comolli or even Giorgio Chiellini had, but it was one that clearly Comolli wanted to fill shortly after he took charge last summer.
Modesto was officially hired on July 11, 2025.
Modesto’s departure was
officially announced on July 10, 2026.
That’s right — nearly one year to the day in which Modesto started his tenure at Juventus, it is now officially over, the club announced on Friday. In one of those jobs where you are left wondering what exactly he did at Juve considering he was rarely seen outside of photos alongside Comolli before games or at training, Modesto was a rather forgotten man during a 2025-26 season in which the Juve front office got a whole lot of criticism — and rightfully so — as the squad failed to qualify for the Champions League. But like Comolli before him, that very large failure is likely what ultimately resulted in him losing his job as we go through another summer of restructuring of the front office.
Here is what Juventus had to say about Modesto’s departure on their website. If you’re hoping for plenty of details or a ton of extremely kind words, this one ain’t it, folks.
Juventus announces that it has reached a mutual agreement with François Modesto regarding the termination of his position as Technical Director, effective today.
The Club would like to thank François for his commitment and professionalism throughout his career and wishes him all the best in his professional and personal future.
That’s not exactly a grand send off. Then again, when you’ve only been around for a year or so and the man who hired you as already left the club as well, there’s only so much they probably want to say about you.
And let’s face it — the writing was on the wall for this one ever since Comolli left Continassa for the final time last month. Once Giovanni Carnevali came in and was named CEO, it was only a matter of time before Modesto — who was previously sporting director at Monza as they made their way to Serie A — was on his way out, too.
It’s to the surprise of nobody that Modesto has left Juventus now that Comolli is no longer running the sporting area. Carnevali has brought in Frederic Massara as his Chief Football Officer, with Marco Ottolini remaining on as the club’s sporting director and Chiellini taking on a more business-oriented role in the front office. (The man has a business degree after all, so that is more toward his off-field wheelhouse compared to what he was doing this past season under Comolli’s watch.)
