According to ESPN’s lead NFL insider Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos wide receiver Pat Bryant suffered a sprained ankle during the Broncos’ loss to the 49ers on Sunday and is expected to miss “a few weeks”.
Bryant was carted off the field after the injury, which did not look all that good on the replay, and he seemed to have suffered a potentially
serious knee injury. However, we learned late last night that the belief was that neither he nor cornerback Pat Surtain II suffered season-ending injuries, and for Bryant, that was confirmed today.
Honestly, this is about as best-case as you can get with this injury. It looked bad, and I assumed Bryant’s season was done. Thankfully, it’s just a sprained ankle, and he will miss a few weeks. It remains to be seen if Bryant will land on the short-term injured reserve or not, but we will learn that in the coming days.
The Broncos play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and then play the reigning Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks on a short week on Thursday Night Football. Bryant will likely be sidelined for both of these games, at least, but after that, we will have to see.
This is still a tough loss for the Broncos’ scuffling offense. Bryant has been one of their more consistent and productive playmakers in recent weeks and just finished making a big play before suffering this sprained ankle. So, they will need Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, and/or Lil’Jordan Humphrey to step up while he is sidelined.
We are still awaiting word on the severity of CB Pat Surtain II’s ankle injury and CB Riley Moss’s rib injury. Again, the belief is that Surtain II did not suffer an Achilles injury, which is great, but he is still expected to miss some time. We will have that update when we get more information, but in the meantime, we can be thankful that Bryant escaped with just a sprained ankle and should be back on the field after a few weeks.
