FSU women’s basketball (4-8, 0-1 ACC) will look to snap its four-game losing streak tonight, facing off against Virginia Tech (9-3, 0-1 ACC) at 6 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center:
Thursday’s contest will serve as Throwback Thursday, and fans are encouraged to wear vintage Florida State gear.
The Seminoles are 32-12 against the Hokies in the series, winning the last two meetings.
Florida State is one of eight teams nationally to have six players averaging 9.0 points per game, led by Solè Williams, who is averaging 15.5 points per game, ranking fifth in the ACC. Williams sits third in the conference with 171 points scored this season.
In the last four games, Emma Risch has come on strong, averaging 13.3 points per game. Coming off the bench in three of the last four, Risch is 11-of-23 from behind the arc, converting 47.8 percent.
Risch has climbed the ranks in three-point shooting percentage this season, where she sits second in the ACC at 43.9 percent. Florida State leads the ACC in three-pointers per game (9.0).
Soccer
Heather Gilchrist added to her awards list on Wednesday, being named the Academic All-America Second Team by College Sports Communicators and the Scholar All-South Region First Team by United Soccer Coaches:
The eighth CSC Academic All-America accolade in program history, Gilchrist is the sixth player to receive the honor and first since 2022. Named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team two weeks ago, Gilchrist is the third player in team history to receive CSC Academic All-America and United Soccer Coaches All-America distinction in the same season, along with Becky Edwards in 2009 and Jenna Nighswonger in 2022.
The United Soccer Coaches Academic All-Region recognition is the 27th in Florida State’s history and first since 2020, as Gilchrist is the 21st to receive the honor.
The two academic awards add to a long list of accolades for Gilchrist in 2025. Along with All-America Third Team and All-Region Second Team honors, she was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team and Third Team All-ACC. A two-time National Team of the Week awardee by Top Drawer Soccer, Gilchrist was recognized on the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List. She is a three-time All-ACC Academic Team, two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll and two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.
In her senior season, Gilchrist scored a career-best four goals, two of them game-winners, with one assist for a career-high nine points in a team-leading 1,825 minutes. She anchored a back line that posted 13 shutouts, including four in the NCAA Tournament and both contests in the College Cup.
Gilchrist graduated from Florida State in the fall of 2024 with a bachelors degree in finance, and is currently pursuing a masters degree in business administration.
Gilchrist helped the Seminoles win their fifth national title with a 16-2-4 overall record in 2025. The NCAA title is FSU’s third in the last five years and second in three. Gilchrist is now a two-time national champion, in 2023 and 2025.

Florida State volleyball’s Iane Henke earned an AVCA All-America honorable mention nod:
Henke put together one of the most successful seasons in FSU history as the senior from Ulm, Germany, finished her career with a bang. Henke finished second in school history in points per set in school history and finished third in school history in kills per set. Henke earned Second Team All-ACC honors as well as AVCA First Team All-Region honors.
Henke had a couple of the top individual performances in FSU history at some points during this season. In the four matches against North Florida, USF, South Carolina and Oklahoma, Henke tallied 15 or more kills in all four of those matches while hitting over .300 in all those matches. Henke is the first FSU player since Norisha Campbell in 2001 to accomplish that feat. Henke recorded 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches against Clemson, Georgia Tech, Cal and Virginia. Henke is the first player in program history to have 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches in the rally scoring era. Henke was also drafted by the Orlando Valkyries 24th overall in the MLV Draft.
FSU swimming and diving wrapped its 2025 at the USA Diving Winter National Championships:
The seven-day event featured eight current Seminoles competing across individual and synchronized events, with multiple top-10 finishes.
Competition opened with qualifying rounds on 10-meter, 1-meter and 3-meter, followed by preliminary and final rounds throughout the week. The event concluded with synchronized finals.
Redshirt senior Kayleigh Clark led the way for Florida State, earning a fifth-place finish in the women’s platform event. Clark placed fifth in the preliminary round with a score of 268.20 before finishing fifth overall in the final with a combined score of 543.80. She also was fifth in the synchronized women’s 3-meter final, with a score of 220.68.
Strong performances continued in synchronized competition later in the week. In the men’s 3-meter synchronized event, the duo of junior Jack Bessire and freshman Jack Sparks placed fifth overall with a combined score of 628.50 after a mark of 311.94 in prelims that also was fifth. Sophomore Hayden Schroeder and sophomore Noah Turner also advanced to the final and finished sixth overall with a score of 622.23 after placing seventh in the preliminary round with a 301.35.
Individually for the men, Schroeder competed in multiple events, placing 21st on both 3-meter (308.15) and 1-meter (256.70). Turner finished 30th on 3-meter with a score of 278.80, while sophomore Carlos Vargas competed on platform and recorded a score of 274.50.
Florida State also posted solid results during the individual qualifying rounds. Sophomore Evelyn Hall was 17th in the 1-meter qualifier with a score of 201.00. In the men’s 1-meter qualifier, Sparks earned a seventh-place finish with a score of 289.60 while freshman Maxwell Shaver followed with a ninth-place showing at 277.40. Shaver also competed in the men’s 3-meter qualifier, placing 32nd with a score of 188.90.
