The San Francisco 49ers are on the clock to begin Day 2 of the NFL Draft. However, we may have to wait a bit longer if the 49ers move back once more. The team is reportedly open to trading out of No. 33. We went over a few trade packages the Niners should accept if a team comes calling.
To me, that’s a sign that they’ve identified prospects they know will fall to the 40s as their top targets, and are comfortable adding draft capital until they are in range to select said player.
Who could that player
be? Wide receiver Denzel Boston to the 49ers was as popular as a mock draft pick as there was during this draft cycle. We listed Boston as a potential option at 33. But if they didn’t take Boston at 27 or 30, why take him at 33 when you could have guaranteed yourself a fifth-year option? Perhaps the Niners value adding a third and fifth-round pick over a potential cost-controlled year of a player.
Any guesses on what the 49ers do at 33 and 58 in this round?
