The San Francisco 49ers announced that they’ve waived offensive lineman Isaac Alarcon and released offensive lineman Killian Zierer from the practice squad.
According to the transaction wire for Monday,
San Francisco didn’t have any trouts. Those transactions generally occur on Tuesday. As of now, Jalen Graham is the only linebacker on the practice squad.
Tatum Bethune filled in for Fred Warner. The other linebackers on the roster include Dee Winters, Luke Gifford, Curtis Robinson, and Nick Martin. Is it time for the rookie to get some run? It might not be a bad time to find out what you have in Martin. Regardless, the team will need to add a linebacker.
Waiving a pair of offensive linemen could be a sign that Ben Bartch and/or Spencer Burford are returning. Bartch hasn’t played since Week 2. The offense could use his consistency both as a run blocker and in pass protection. Bartch’s experience and effectiveness have been sorely missed. But he’s also played sparingly enough that the Niners had to know there was a strong possibility of their starting left guard missing time.
We’ll have updates on any potential injury updates the next time head coach Kyle Shanahan speaks.
