Individual
Highlights
- Game Summary:
- NC State started slowly for the second game and in this game, unfortunately, Darrion Williams did too. UAB’s switching on defense slowed the Wolfpack offense. The Pack only shot 38.2% / 18.8% for the half. Ven Lubin got in a little foul trouble allowing Musa Sagnia to get in early. He made the most of his time with 2 pts and 9 rebounds in the first half. Darrion Williams and Paul McNeil led the scoring with 9 each. The Pack led 41-33 at the half, but the game did not feel in control.
- In the second half the Wolfpack offense started clicking. The Pack shot 53.8% / 50% (made 7) and hit 10 of 11 free throws. Tre Holloman was outstanding with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists in the half.
- Final score 94-70.
Overall Takeaways:
- The Wolfpack press was not effective. The Blazers took the ball to the basket with limited resistance too often. The Pack gave up 44 points in the paint.
- NC State had 14 turnovers, 7 by the point guards
- Halftime adjustments were encouraging. The Wolfpack took over the game in the second half.
- Once Musa Sagnia gets adjusted to college ball, it’s going to be tough to keep him off the court. He defends the rim well, has excellent hands, and is an outstanding rebounder.
- In the radio postgame, Coach Wade said he had been advised not to say anything to the team about free throw shooting. He knew they shot well in practice but did not shoot well in the opener. Tonight, they shot 81.8%. That will do.
