The relationship between Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and QB Jalen Hurts hasn’t always been smooth sailing, and the quarterback hasn’t always been so forthcoming with positive comments about the head coach.
Things have seemed notably better since the Week 5 bye last season, when they spent hours together working to fix everything on and off the field.
As the team prepares for their fifth postseason run together, Hurts was very complimentary of Sirianni on Wednesday, and highlighted their many shared values.
“His day-to-day work ethic, the determination [Nick Sirianni] has, the will to win, and the drive he has is something I admire. And he’s always trying to figure it out. I said this a few weeks ago, his role has evolved from year-to-year, different things have been demanded of him in time, but he’s always shown up and given his best.”
Hurts also explained how he and the head coach approach each new season the same way, and share the same goals for each year.
“Every year is different, but it’s always the same goal. And if you don’t have that mentality, then you’re not in the right place, ultimately. So, I know that’s something that he’s adamant on, and I feel very strongly about that as well. It’s just coming in, treating every year as it’s own year, but also knowing exactly what we’re playing for — that’s the collective of winning and putting ourselves in positions to play for championships.”
The Eagles will face the 49ers on Sunday evening in the wild card round of the playoffs, and knowing the head coach and franchise QB are on the same page, is one less thing to worry about — there are enough other things with this offense everyone should be focused on.
