The Saints went on the road and had to fight to force overtime against the Detroit Lions. As everyone knows, the Saints left Ford Field with a loss after a failed two-point conversion in overtime.
The Saints were down 21-0 in the third quarter, and at first, things were not looking good. But even through all of this mess, one player showed up Sunday for the entire game, and that was Chris Olave.
Olave entered the season with a lot of people questioning whether he was worth the extension he received
during the offseason. Whether it was because of health concerns or the lack of contested catches on the field, people were trying to find ways to justify their opinions on why the Saints should not have signed him to the deal he received.
Well, on Sunday, his play quieted a lot of those doubters.
Olave had 13 targets, 10 receptions, and 182 yards. Seven of his 10 receptions resulted in first downs. He averaged 18.2 yards per reception, and his average depth of target was 18.4 yards.
Olave finished as the Saints’ highest-graded offensive player on PFF with a grade of 82.6. As of now, Olave is the league leader in receiving yards and receptions.
Olave fought through cramping and was able to play over 50 snaps in Sunday’s game. Hopefully, Olave can stay on this path and truly establish himself as one of the best receivers in the league.
