It’s time to start preparing for the 2025 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 2 of the Fran Brown Era.
Next up is…
Name: Gary Bryant III
Position: Linebacker
Year: Redshirt Junior
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 228 lbs.
Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland
High School/Previous College: Good Counsel/South Dakota
2024 stats: Starting middle linebacker for South Dakota, who reached the FCS Playoffs semifinals. Recorded
103 tackles (fourth in Missouri Valley Conference), two interceptions, four tackles for loss, fumble recovery, forced fumble and three pass breakups. Earned FCS All-American and All-MVFC honors.
2025 projections: Bryant III should slot in nicely as a starting linebacker following the departures of Marlowe Wax and Justin Barron. We’ll have to see how the junior fares against FBS-level competition, but Bryant will most likely get the starting nod against Tennessee.
How’d he get here?: Transferred to the Orange in April after scheduling other visits with USC, Cal and West Virginia. Committed to South Dakota out of high school over offers from Buffalo, UAlbany and UMass.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Consensus three-star recruit as a transfer, unranked out of high school.
Winners Get Washed: Johnny Slicks Beast Body Wash— Making a name for himself and emerging as a beast in the Dakotas, Bryant has the upside to lead the Orange in tackles in year one.
