Yoane Wissa has stepped up his efforts to leave Brentford by deleting all club-related content from his Instagram account as negotiations with Newcastle United drag on and his transfer to Tyneside stalls.
The 28-year-old forward unfollowed the Bees and removed every photo of him in the team’s colours on Monday, leaving his profile picture black.
Wissa’s decision follows weeks of tension, with the forward being excluded from the squad in Sunday’s 3–1 defeat to Nottingham Forest and training away from the first
team.
Wissa is coming off bagging 19 goals in the Premier League last season and has made clear he wants to join Newcastle to play Champions League football. He turned down interest from Saudi Arabia and believes Brentford assured him last summer he would be allowed to leave in 2025.
Sources close to the player insist he feels let down, as he was previously told a £26m fee would be enough to secure an exit last year, but now it’s looking like Brentford has at least doubled the fee they’re asking for in exchange for letting him go.
According to reports, Brentford are demanding more than £50m, having already rejected Newcastle’s opening £30m proposal. The club’s recent £42m signing of Dango Ouattara was expected to pave the way for Wissa’s departure, but Brentford insist another forward must also be added before they sanction a sale.
