The Seattle Seahawks are making a significant effort to get as many invested 12s in the seats as possible.
Per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, the Seahawks are actively discouraging fans from reselling season tickets prior to the start of the team’s playoff run. This continues a campaign that was initially started last spring, coming after a season in which Seattle finished just 3-6 at Lumen Field in Mike Macdonald’s first season as head coach.
While season ticket resales are not entirely prohibited,
these resales are not meant to be regular occurrences. From an organizational standpoint, this policy is intended to bring in more dedicated fans rather than fans of opposing teams and especially those who are just trying to make a quick buck off some of the most prestigious tickets available to fans.
All season tickets are available digitally, granting teams the ability to track how they are being used and how frequently certain ticket holders are listing them on resale sites. If fans are found to be attempting to resell season tickets on a regular basis, they will receive an email from the team dissuading them from doing so. The message from this email is listed below (via The Seattle Times):
“Our records indicate that your seats for the upcoming Divisional Round Playoff game are currently posted for resale. As communicated before the 2025 season, 2026 renewal eligibility may be impacted if it is determined that your season tickets, including any playoff games, were used primarily for resale purposes.
“To avoid any impact to your renewal eligibility, we ask that you remove your resale listing and ensure your tickets are used by another 12. We encourage you to distribute your tickets directly to friends, family members, neighbors, or community groups that will help us pack Lumen Field with blue and green.”
The Seahawks sent out a similar announcement in the spring, outlining specifics on ways to redistribute tickets and how often season ticket resales are allowed. Below are the details from that message, as per The Seattle Times:
“We are happy to provide the ability to resell your tickets through the NFL Ticket Exchange,” read the announcement that the team sent in the spring. “While occasional resale is permitted, renewal eligibility may be impacted if it is determined that your tickets were primarily used for resale purposes. At the conclusion of each season, accounts that resell a majority of their season tickets will be contacted and given an opportunity to respond before any renewal eligibility decisions are made.”
Seattle’s Divisional Round contest vs. the San Francisco 49ers will be the first playoff game at Lumen Field in five years, as well as the first with fans in attendance since the 2016 season. The Seahawks defeated the Detroit Lions in the most recent home postseason game to allow fans, winning 26-6 at the then-named CenturyLink Field during the 2016 wild-card playoffs.
Seattle will host the 49ers in the Divisional Round on Saturday night. This will be the teams’ third playoff meeting all-time, and the first since the 2022 season.
