Chelsea have completed the signing of Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano, with the 28-year-old left back putting pen to paper on a five-year contract, good through 2031. The deal was reportedly struck at €19m after extended negotiations, with a further €2m in potential bonuses due the La Liga side.
Chavarría says he will bring “a lot of intensity” and “a lot of energy” on and off the ball in what is a “dream come true” move for him. And it’s indeed been quite a journey for him to get here, starting
out his senior professional career in the Spanish lower leagues before getting the chance to prove himself at the top level with Rayo a few years ago. Along the way, he caught Xabi Alonso’s eye at Real Madrid, and now he may be the final piece of our new manager’s (first-season) puzzle at Chelsea.
