The Bengals were brought down to earth on Sunday in Pittsburgh, and now they have the task of proving to everyone (possibly even to themselves) who they really are is the team that beat the Buccaneers and Texans in Weeks 1 and 2. They made a flurry of moves on Tuesday, including bringing Mitch Tinsley back from Houston’s practice squad.
They weren’t the only team making roster moves. While Cincy brought Tinsley back to Cincinnati, the Miami Dolphins signed linebacker Shaka Heyward off the Bengals’
practice squad on Tuesday. In Week 4 the Bengals host the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they travel to Miami to play the Dolphins the following week where they could see Heyward on the field.
Heyward a 2023 undrafted rookie out of Duke, logged 10 combined tackles in eight appearances. He is very much aware of the Bengals’ defensive inner workings and schemes, and Miami may be looking to take advantage.
Here’s what else is going on:
With Jalen Davis headed to IR with a hamstring issue, the most likely fix in the secondary is moving Dax Hill into the slot and calling on rookie third-round pick Tacario Davis to take over outside opposite DJ Turner. That’s what happened during the game in Pittsburgh. Hill is familiar with the nickel corner position, both with the Bengals and in college.

“I’m very excited about the Bengals continuing to improve the roster, and I’ll also say this,” Duffner says. “I hope like heck that this team can reach the heights that I hope they can and bring a championship to Mr. Brown. I’m very much pulling for that possibility to occur.”
Solomon Wilcots lists several reasons the Bengals’ defense isn’t that much improved from where it was over the last couple seasons, the chief of which has been the team’s inability to tackle. He also points to the fact the Bengals’ defense has allowed 27 or more points in two of the team’s three games.

Bengals’ Tanner Hudson: Signed to Cincinnati’s active roster
The Bengals signed Hudson off the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.
Hudson was elevated from the practice squad for two of the Bengals’ first three games of the regular season, accumulating three catches on as many targets for 17 yards. He’ll now be a part of the team’s 53-man roster moving forward and will contribute mostly on special teams and in a depth role on offense behind fellow tight ends Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Erick All.
