The Seattle Seahawks began their voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday. Head coach Mike Macdonald spoke to media following practice, providing an encouraging injury update on Seattle’s promising wide receiver, Tory Horton.
“Tory has made a lot of great strides,“ Coach Macdonald said. “Seems like we got some feedback that can really accelerate his recovery, which is great. He deserves some good news. He’s been working really, really hard. It’s one of those things, it’s like, you don’t
have a timetable until you do. That just shows you’ve got to just keep grinding away at it. Some good news back on Tory’s front, which is really exciting. Again, we’ll have a better feel for Tory as we enter training camp.
After scoring six touchdowns in just eight games as a rookie, the fifth-round draft pick had his season abruptly end with a shin injury. The severity and specificity have generally been vague, although the fact that Horton missed the back-end of the season is enough of a hint that what Horton was dealing with was significant. Back in February, Coach Macdonald said that Horton wasn’t going to do any workouts in the spring, and effectively reiterated as such in March.
“There’s a chance he could do some stuff towards the end of the spring. We’ll see. We’ll see how it goes,” Macdonald added.
The end of spring is, well, in a few weeks. That also happens to be when the Seahawks will have mandatory minicamp from June 9-11. If Horton does anything substantive during minicamp that would certainly provide optimism that he’ll be ready for training camp. We did not get the chance to see Horton play alongside Rashid Shaheed after the latter was acquired via trade, and the dream is to see those two on the field at the same time this season.
