The Minnesota Vikings are likely in the market for a veteran edge defender, and there could be one on the way according to a recent report.
Kyle Van Noy, who has played under Brian Flores at two different stops in his NFL career, is reportedly on his way to visit with the Vikings at some point in the next
day or two.
Van Noy has been in the league for a long time now, having been selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of BYU. He spent the first two and a half years of his career in Detroit before being traded to the New England Patriots midway through the 2016 season, where Flores was the team’s linebackers coach.
He played for the Patriots through the 2019 season and then spent the 2020 season with the Miami Dolphins, where Flores had taken over as the head coach. Despite signing a four-year contract with the Dolphins before the 2020 season, he was released after just one year and returned to New England for the 2021 season. He was then released by the Patriots despite a productive 2021 season and spent the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Chargers before landing with the Baltimore Ravens, where he’s spent the past three seasons.
In 2024, Van Noy recorded a career-high with 12.5 sacks, but saw that number drop to just two last season. The 35-year-old has tallied 57 sacks in his 12-year NFL career thus far.
At this point, Van Noy obviously wouldn’t be expected to start but would provide some quality depth behind Dallas Turner and Andrew Van Ginkel. He probably wouldn’t cost a ton of money, either, although the Vikings have enough cap space to make a reasonable deal possible.
