The Kansas City Royals will take on the Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim tonight at Kauffman Stadium in the second game of this three-game set. The Royals dropped the first game last night and, with their playoff odds dwindling, need a win tonight. There is a chance of storms in the Kansas City area tonight, which could impact this game.
Kansas City will start Ryan Bergert. Because they had two days off in the last week, Bergert will start for the second Wednesday in a row. He completed the sixth
inning for the first time this season in that start while allowing just one run. Bergert has never faced the Angels.
The Angels will counter with Caden Dana. Dana is one of Los Angeles’s top pitching prospects, beginning this season in Triple-A at age 21. He posted a 5.93 ERA while struggling with walks and homers in the inflated offensive environment of the Pacific Coast League. He had a couple cameos in the majors early this season but will make his first start of the year tonight. A mid-80s slider is Dana’s best pitch, while he also throws a low-90s four-seamer and mixes in a changeup and curveball.
Jac Caglianone will return to the lineup as the DH. Carter Jensen will begin this game on the bench, same as yesterday.
First pitch: 6:40 pm CDT
