A few weeks ago, wide receiver Cody White was the Las Vegas Raiders’ secret weapon. Now, he’s out of a job.
The team released the veteran on Wednesday after as they needed room to activate reserve tight end Carter Runyon from the injured reserve. The Raiders had until Wednesday to either put Runyon on the 53-man roster or shelve him for the rest of the season. Runyon was hurt in training camp and put on the injured reserve.
The Raiders signed White to the practice squad in September, reuniting him
with head coach Klint Kubiak. They won a Super Bowl ring together with the Seattle Seahawks last season. The Raiders elevated White from the practice squad for the first three games of the season before signing him to the 53-man roster when fellow receiver Jack Bech went on the injured reserve. Bech returned in Week 8.
White’s first three receptions were touchdowns and he made some big plays on special teams. He ended up having eight catches for 112 yards and three touchdowns on 19 targets. His play time dwindled in Week 2 to two offensive snaps. If he clears waivers Thursday, the Raiders could sign him back to the practice squad.
Runyon, an undrafted free agent in 2025, played in 13 games last season. He logged 206 snaps on special teams and 45 on offense. He is the Raiders’ fourth tight end with Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer and Ian Thomas.
The Raiders have six wide receivers on the 53-man roster. To take White’s place on the game-day roster, the Raiders will likely choose between Runyon and receivers Dont’e Thornton and Malik Benson, who were both inactive in Week 8.
