The Kentucky Wildcats added another comeback to their resume last night as they knocked off the Tennessee Volunteers for the second time this season.
How did they do it both times? Defense and physicality.
The second part of that has become an emphasis for this coaching staff. Earlier last week, Andrija Jelavic talked about the team punching boxing gloves.
Now, we have learned about another drill they are calling the “tunnel of doom.”
“At this point, we’ve kind of just started having fun with hitting
each other in practice,” Malachi Moreno said following Saturday’s victory. “We have a tunnel of doom. You hit the pads, and then you literally run through a tunnel of guys with pads, and they’re just hitting you, smacking you, and you’ve got to accept it.
“That’s become fun.”
It seems like it is really starting to help as the Cats held their own against one of the most physical teams in the SEC. Will it continue to help propel this team forward? You would like to think so as we hit the home stretch of the regular season with Kentucky in very real position to win the SEC championship.
With a few massive games coming up in the next few weeks, if the Cats hope to either win the SEC or land a top-four seed in Nashville, it will take some more growth to help control some rowdy road environments.
