The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a bounce-back blowout victory over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. However, the status of their star wide receiver Puka Nacua appears to be up in the air. According to Nate Atkins, who covers the Rams for The Athletic, head coach Sean McVay told reporters that Nacua’s status for Sunday Night’s game vs. the Broncos is currently TBD.
If Nacua is unable to go, the Broncos would face a Rams team down Myles Garrett AND Puka Nacua.
Nacua was added to the injury report last week with a hip injury due to what Sean McVay described as groin soreness. His status for Monday Night’s game vs. the Giants was up in the air, but he was eventually ruled out. However, the Rams offense did not miss a beat without him, mostly due to the performance of veteran wide receiver Davante Adams. The veteran wide receiver had a vintage performance against a Giants secondary that had no answer for him and totaled 8 catches for a whopping 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. So, if Nacua does indeed miss Sunday Night’s game, the Broncos secondary still faces a tough test in Adams.
With that said, the Broncos do have plenty of history with Davante Adams due to his time with the Raiders. In that time period, the veteran wide receiver did get the best of star corner Pat Surtain II a few times, so it should be fun watching those two go at it one more time.
We will have to pay attention to Nacua’s status as the week progresses, but regardless, the Rams’ passing offense will be a tough test for the Denver Broncos’ secondary. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is the reigning NFL MVP and is led by head coach/play caller Sean McVay, who is one of the best in the business. Coming from the Shanahan tree, McVay loves to run the ball and often does it well, so the Broncos’ run defense will be tested again. Also, they love to utilize their tight ends, so we need to hope Vance Joseph’s history of tight end struggles doesn’t pop up on Sunday Night.
This will be a big game for both teams that sit at 1-1 and are considered Super Bowl favorites. Neither team wants to fall to 1-2, so it should be a fun battle. The Rams being down both Myles Garrett AND Puka Nacua would be a huge break for the Broncos. We’ll have to keep an eye on this situation as the week progresses.
