It’s here y’all. The week we’ve been waiting for.
When Mizzou’s 2025 schedule was released, fans undoubtedly had the Week 2 Border War and Mayor’s Cup showdown circled as early season tests for the Tigers.
But those who believed from the beginning that this year’s team had College Football Playoff potential? It all came down to the Week 7 match up against the bluest of blue blood programs.
Mizzou has yet to beat Alabama since arriving in the SEC in 2012, losing all five matchups by a collective score of 195-52. That’s not good, folks!
And yet, Saturday’s match up seems destined to be the closest matchup yet between the Tigers and the Tide. Alabama, which climbed to No. 8 in the latest AP Poll after getting revenge on Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt, travels to Missouri with both momentum and, importantly, no margin for error. A loss, even on the road to a Top 15 team like the Tigers, would likely boot the Tide from the CFP conversation for the second season in a row. That’s anathema to the folks in Tuscaloosa.
For the Tigers? They’re playing with house money. Prior to the season’s beginning, there likely weren’t any sane analysts thinking the Tigers could grab their first win over ‘Bama since 1975. But now the likelihood is high, with the spread opening at a tight 3.5 points in favor of Alabama. We’ll see how the spread moves over the course of this week, but with both teams relatively healthy and the Tigers hosting off the back of a bye week, we’re likely looking at a white-knuckler. Beating Alabama would vault Mizzou firmly into CFP contention and represent likely the biggest win in Eli Drinkwitz’s tenure.
So strap in folks. And get your wallets out, if you so choose.
