The Penguins are 2-0 and on Thursday night, they rolled out a new uniform design, wearing gold third jerseys for their home opener game against the New York Islanders.
When the Penguins took the ice for
Thursday night’s game at PPG Paints Arena, the team was wearing their new third jerseys that the team say are synonymous with “a legacy stitched in gold.”
The new uniforms are littered with Pittsburgh references and tributes to things about the city, including:
- A triangle patch on the shoulder paying homage to Point State Park that features three river waves and an igloo that pays tribute to the old Civic Arena
- Three black stripes that represent Pittsburgh’s three rivers
- Letters and numbers inspired by Pittsburgh’s historic trolley car system
- A loop label with a yellow bridge
- Blue and white checkered pattern from the Pittsburgh flag on the inside collar
The Penguins will wear the new uniforms another 10 times this season, eight of which will be home games at PPG Paints Arena.
