Heading into the second Crosstown series of the season — and this one with much more anticipation of success for the White Sox than the one back in May — it seemed a good time to review our very favorite moments of interleague play between the two Chicago teams.
Understanding that there are multitudes of such moments, we tried to curate the five best:
Unsurprisingly, it was “The Punch” — incorporating a brawl, a catcher getting plowed over at home plate, ejections, and ultimately a White Sox rout — that
still resonates most with us. Brett was at the game, and lost his voice completely from screaming through the brawl. What a game.
The national question this week involved the case for run differential correlating to team success. This year’s Detroit Tigers are the poster team for laughing away the power of run diff:
Of course, there are reasons for a team underperforming its run differential, including one or two big routs for wins, consistently playing close in losses, bad luck … or even managerial underperformance. Here’s to you, A.J. Hinch, and the eventual firing of your cheating self!
