Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß heard all of the criticism that his club received over the summer for not breaking the bank with blockbuster moves or loading up the roster to giver head
coach Vincent Kompany a deep bench.
Instead of that, the Bavarians kept it simple, made astute acquisitions, sales, and loans, while not overloading the roster with too many players.
Simply put, what Bayern Munich did has worked perfectly.
“We were ridiculed because the squad was supposedly too small. We deliberately kept the squad small and didn’t bring in the many expensive players that were mainly demanded by the media. Otherwise there wouldn’t be Lennart Karl or any young players in the first team. Our coach was willing [to integrate young players], even though he was sad because some transfers didn’t work out, but he didn’t complain. He rolled up his sleeves – and now we see the result,” said Hoeneß told MagentaTV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It is tough to argue with Hoeneß. The roster has been easy to manage for Kompany and the chemistry within the group has been insanely good.
The big test, though, is how far this team can get toward a treble, but so far, so good…right?
