The BBN let out a collective gasp when news broke that Kentucky Basketball star Milan Momcilovic suffered an injury to a finger on his shooting hand. Even though it’s the offseason and the injury was initially reported as simply being “severely jammed,” just hearing about any problem with Momcilovic’s shooting hand was a tough pill to swallow.
However, there’s great news to report as the new season draws closer.
On Tuesday, the Wildcats took the floor for their first official practice of the 2026-27
college basketball season, and Momcilovic was active getting shots up.
The UK media team didn’t waste a golden opportunity to show fans that everything seems to be right on track for Mark Pope’s “sniper,” and barring any setbacks, this shouldn’t affect Momcilovic’s ability to score the rock this winter.
I actually had the chance to watch Momcilovic get shots up last week when Kentucky hosted Media Madness inside the Joe Craft Center. He looked fine to me, and as you can see from the video, there appear to be nothing but positive developments in healing his jammed finger.
Again, there were no worries or scuttlebutt about this being anything other than minor from the beginning, but it was still reassuring to see the Iowa State transfer letting the ball fly while seemingly pain-free.
Of course, there is still a visible splint that’s being worn, but you can only assume that will stay in place as a precautionary measure for as long as needed. UK will open the season in 42 days on Nov. 3rd when they take on Manhattan inside Rupp Arena.
The Cats will obviously lean heavily on Momcilovic to provide a huge chunk of their offense throughout a long season. But today, let the young man enjoy his special day as he celebrates his 22nd birthday.
