When the NFL released the schedule, we all keyed in on the first six weeks of the Denver Broncos season. I remembered saying that I could not think of a worst stretch of games in all my years covering the team and that still holds true today:
- Week 1, 9/14: Broncos at Chiefs (MNF)
- Week 2, 9/20: Jaguars at Broncos
- Week 3, 9/27: Rams at Broncos (SNF)
- Week 4, 10/4: Broncos at 49ers
- Week 5, 10/11: Broncos at Chargers
- Week 6, 10/15: Seahawks at Broncos (TNF)
Many of us fans we hoping that they’d come out of this stretch at or above .500 and so far it has been mission accomplished. It didn’t look that way after the beat down in Kansas City, but the team bounced-back and are now ahead of the sticks in this stretch.
The toughest game left on this stretch of games is this week against the San Francisco 49ers. I am very doubtful they can get past them this week, but I see the next two games as quite doable. The Seattle Seahawks haven’t been dominant to start the season and the Los Angeles Chargers are a dumpster fire presently. My target remains 4-2. If they get through these six games at 4-2, then they should be easily in the mix in the AFC come December.
