It’s been a busy month of April at the University of Kentucky as the basketball transfer portal is in full swing, spring football is winding down, Mitch Barnhart’s departure, and the search for the next UK Athletic Director.
With the school in search of a new AD after Barnahrt steps down on June 30, Justin Rowland of KSR and Rivals reports that Kentucky has expressed interest in Boise State’s Jeramiah Dickey.
Dickey has been the Broncos’ Athletic Director since January of 2021. He’s been at the school
throughout a major transition with the football program, which hired Spencer Danielson after firing Andy Avalos midway through the 2023 season.
Turns out that move worked out very well, as the Broncos reached the College Football Playoff the very next season and are 24-8 overall under Danielson.
The men’s basketball team has also reached the NCAA Tournament three years in a row from 2022-24 after previously having just eight appearances all-time dating back to 1968, and just three trips from 1995-2021.
Dickey was named Athletic Director of the Year in 2025 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. He’s also currently working with an interim school president as Boise State is in search of its next president, which could make a move to an SEC school even more tempting.
That is, if Kentucky officially offers the job to Dickey, as it’s unclear how serious of a candidate he is.
For now, we should still brace for an in-house candidate to be UK’s next AD and be pleasantly surprised if they actually go outside the school for its next hire. But if UK goes with the outside route, Jeramiah Dickey sounds like a promising candidate.
